Comment on "Bus Uncle"

1) The number of viewers:

According to the Youtube site, there are more than two millions viewers to whatch the video.

2) Quality of the video:

I think that the video is not such high quality. In terms of the camera angles, the person who took the video just keep a given angle to shoot the video and the camera is unstable since it is a candid video. Also, the person just took the video under the natural light, and there is no light setting or some special techniques to make the scene more attractive. As regards the narrative, there is no storyteller and the only way for the audience to know what is the matter is mainly focus on the conversation of the two main characters. Therefore, as I mentioned before, since it is a candid video, so it is unable and impossible to make use of some special techniques to catch the sudden event.

   Interesting socio-cultural issue aroused:

Although the video is not professional, it arouses a big concern in the public. The number of the viewers above is a good example to proof it. It increases an interesting socio-cultural issue in real life. There is some popular sentenses occuring, such as "Both you and me have pressure" and "Not settled". It seems pointing out an important issue in our daily life which is "pressure". Nowadays, many people in the world, whatever teenagers or adults, live under a great pressure. For example, teenagers works hard for public examination and adults work hard for their living. So, bus uncle in the video seems to release most people's pressure.

3) Reasons of the video deserved attention from internet community:

I suggest that the video is deserved a large attention from the internet community although the shooting techniques are not professional. The main reason is that the video points out an important issue and the ideas suits most people's mind. I sujject one of the reasons that a video or a film is good as long as it is touching and it can arouses people's particular emotion successfully. And   Moreover, it will attract more amateur people to create videos.

4) Video-sharing sites enhance creative culture:

As we know, there are many video-sharing sites allowing individual to upload video clips to the internet nowadays, such as Tudou, Youku, and the especially famous one, Youtube. It seems more and more people in the world enjoying sharing videos with cyber friends, taking "Bus Uncle", "Chris Crocker" and "Leave Whitney Alone" videos as good evidence. I believe that such video-sharing sites denfinitely enhance creative culture. According to the article, "Creativity meets circulation: internet videos, amateurs and the process of evolution",  when it comes to the creativity of the community, video hosting service seems no external boundaries for it aparts from the legal issues and digital rights management efforts. It means that people can edit the original material freely to create different versions of works. The example shown in the article is that some people mixed the image and sound fragments emerged from the "Leave Whitney Alone" to create a music video. "The audio-visual video-clips uploaded by millions of users can be regarded as material rather than a ready-made product." It is extremely convenient for people to recycling, mashing up, re-editing or remixing the materials and enhance their creativity. Therefore, video-sharing sites are surely encourage creative culture.

  4. Nina, it's true what you say. "whatever teenagers or adults, live under a great pressure." It remind me a latest new reported that a son killed his father. It's because his father complained the son that he can't earn more money. (Reference link: http://hk.news.yahoo.com/article/101005/4/kk09.html)

  5. Hi Nina, I do agree that "no external boundaries" for creativity with video-sites like Tudou and Youtube. People can fully utilise those sources and materials from the internet and provide their own version of video. And I think it would become a trend to post some creative and interesting video on the internet!

  6. I like your saying how convenient of the internet is. People can just arbitrarily design and modify their videos. Such convenience gives a huge room for their creativity.

By the way, the whole passage is so detailed and considertate.

  7. hey Nina, i also agree that video-sharring videos can enhance creative culture, even a song has made after "Leave Britney Alone!" or "Bus Uncle", on repeating they keywords"leave Britney alone..."or "Not settled",right?! However, video-sharring videos can also put danger on copyright, as people copy and upload videos illegally, which worsen the development of creative culture.

  8. Vivian, thank you very much! Since video-sharing sites occur, people who are not professional can also approach video making and develop their interest. I think it's very good!

Edith, we can see many such news nowadys. It's very painful for me. I believe one of the main reasons of such phenomenon is that they have not enough ability to afford pressure.

Millie, we can see the trend that many people post fun videos on the internet nowadys. It is nice for us to know the interesting events in real life and we can also appreciate people's creative works.

  9. Elson, thank you very much! I believe that both you and me can feel how convenient of the internet is.

Msmk, you may be right. Everything in the world has both positive and negative aspects. But I think the problem of copyright should be mainly depended on the education, but not the laws.

  11. Rainbow, Copyright is really a problem. But as I mentioned above, the problem should be improved by the Education or even the laws rather than attacking such video-sharing sites.
